Sensodyne is a toothpaste brand specifically designed for individuals with sensitive teeth. It was first introduced in 1961 by Block Drug Company, a Brooklyn-based firm established in 1907 by pharmacist Alexander Block. The company focused on dental care products by 1925 and relocated to Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1938. In 2000, Block Drug was acquired by SmithKline Beecham P.L.C., which later became GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). In July 2022, GSK spun off its consumer healthcare division, including the Sensodyne brand, to form Haleon, a British multinational consumer healthcare corporation. Sensodyne toothpastes are manufactured in multiple countries to meet global demand. The brand is marketed under the name Shumitect in Japan. Sensodyne offers various formulations to address tooth sensitivity, utilizing active ingredients like potassium nitrate and strontium acetate/chloride to alleviate discomfort. The brand has a longstanding reputation for providing effective solutions for sensitive teeth worldwide.
