Géramont is a premier French soft cheese brand that was officially established in 1935 by Fromagerie Gérard, a dairy company founded by Eugène Gérard in 1898 in the Vosges region of France. The name itself is a portmanteau of 'Gérard' and 'Mont' (mountain), paying tribute to its mountainous origin. Although it is a quintessential French product, it was introduced to the German market in 1973 and has since become the most popular branded cheese in Germany, where it is often synonymous with the 'French way of life' (Savoir-vivre).
Manufacturing takes place predominantly at the original Fromagerie Gérard site in Le Tholy, France, though some specific product variants or formats may be produced in German facilities to serve the local market more efficiently. Since 1971, the brand has been part of the Bongrain Group, which rebranded to Savencia Fromage & Dairy in 2015. Today, Géramont remains a flagship brand for Savencia, specifically managed for the Central European market by its German subsidiary.
