TRESemmé is a well-established hair care brand originally founded in 1947 by Edna L. Emme at the Godefroy Manufacturing Company. The brand was named as a phonetic wordplay on the French term for 'well-loved' and its founder's name.
Starting as a salon-only product line, it eventually expanded to the retail market to provide professional-grade results for home use. In 1968, the brand was acquired by Alberto-Culver, which was later purchased by the multinational consumer goods giant Unilever in 2010. Today, TRESemmé is part of Unilever's extensive personal care portfolio. The products are manufactured globally in various facilities located in North America, Europe, and Asia to meet regional market demands.
