Volvo Cars is a world-renowned automotive brand originally founded in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1927. Initially established as a subsidiary of the ball bearing manufacturer SKF, Volvo quickly gained a global reputation for vehicle safety and engineering excellence. Today, the brand is synonymous with safety innovations, such as the three-point seatbelt.
While Volvo's heritage and design center remains firmly rooted in Sweden, its manufacturing footprint has expanded globally. The company operates major production plants in Sweden, Belgium, China, and the United States. In 2010, the brand underwent a significant ownership change when it was acquired from Ford Motor Company by the Chinese multinational automotive company Geely Holding Group. Since then, Volvo has transitioned toward a luxury-focused, fully electric future under Geely's long-term strategic management while maintaining its Swedish identity and core values.
