Carhartt is an iconic American brand founded in 1889 by Hamilton Carhartt in Detroit, Michigan. Originally established to produce durable bib overalls for railroad workers, the brand has remained a family-owned and privately held company for over 135 years. Today, it is managed by the fourth and fifth generations of the Carhartt-Valade family, maintaining its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.
While the brand is deeply rooted in American manufacturing, its production is now global to meet international demand. Carhartt continues to operate factories in Kentucky and Tennessee, where it produces its 'Made in the USA' line. However, the majority of its products are manufactured in countries such as Mexico, China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Tunisia. The brand also operates a popular streetwear division, Carhartt Work In Progress (WIP), which is based in Europe and focuses on a more fashion-oriented audience while keeping the rugged DNA of the original workwear.
