Ray-Ban is perhaps the most iconic sunglasses brand in the world, famous for creating the Aviator and Wayfarer styles. Originally founded in 1937 by the American company Bausch & Lomb, the brand was developed for the United States Army Air Corps to reduce the glare encountered by pilots.
In 1999, Bausch & Lomb sold the brand to the Italian eyewear conglomerate Luxottica Group. Since this acquisition, the majority of manufacturing has transitioned to Italy, where premium models are crafted. However, the company also operates significant manufacturing facilities in China, where several contemporary lines are produced to the same quality standards. Today, the brand is owned by EssilorLuxottica, a French-Italian multinational corporation formed by the 2018 merger of Essilor and Luxottica.
