Maille is one of the most prestigious mustard brands in the world, boasting a history that dates back to 1723 in Marseille, France. The brand was officially established as La Maison Maille in 1747 by Antoine-Claude Maille, who became a celebrated vinegar and mustard maker for several European royal courts, including King Louis XV.

Manufacturing for Maille occurs in several locations to support its global distribution. While the brand is deeply associated with the Dijon region of France, specifically with its factory in Chevigny, much of the product found in North American retail stores is produced in Canada. Conversely, products sold in Canada and many European markets are often imported directly from France. In 2000, the brand was acquired by the British-Dutch multinational Unilever. Looking toward the future, Unilever has announced strategic shifts to focus on its core growth categories, though Maille remains a significant part of its premium condiments portfolio.
