Ben's Original, formerly known as Uncle Ben's, is a globally recognized brand specializing in rice products. The brand's history began in the early 20th century in the United States when British chemist Erich Huzenlaub developed a unique parboiling process to retain the rice's natural vitamins. This technology was later brought to America by Forrest Mars Sr., who partnered with Gordon L. Harwell to form Converted Rice Inc. in 1943.
In 2020, the brand underwent a significant transformation, rebranding from Uncle Ben's to Ben's Original to remove racial stereotypes associated with its previous imagery. Today, Ben's Original is a key brand in the portfolio of Mars, Incorporated, a major American multinational.
Manufacturing takes place in multiple locations worldwide to serve different regional markets. For North America, a significant portion is produced in Mississippi, USA. For the European market, products are often produced in the United Kingdom or within the European Union (such as Belgium or Italy), while the raw basmati rice is typically sourced from India and Pakistan.
