Wattie's Tomato Sauce is an iconic New Zealand condiment, often referred to as a national staple. Founded by Sir James Wattie in 1934 in Hastings, Hawke's Bay, the brand initially focused on canning fruit and vegetables to reduce waste and provide affordable food. Over the decades, it evolved into the country's leading food producer, with its tomato sauce becoming a signature product.

While the brand maintains deep roots in New Zealand, its ownership has transitioned to international conglomerates. After being acquired by J. Wattie Canneries and later merging with Goodman Fielder, the brand was purchased by are the H.J. Heinz Company in 1992. Following the 2015 merger of Kraft and Heinz, Wattie's is now a key part of the Kraft Heinz global portfolio. Despite global ownership, the tomato sauce continues to be manufactured primarily in Hastings, New Zealand, using local and imported ingredients to satisfy its massive domestic following.
