Karat is a classic Danish coffee brand that has been a staple in Denmark since its launch in 1973 by Ferdinand Andersen & Co., a company established in 1885. The brand is renowned for its rich and full-bodied coffee, embodying the traditional Danish coffee culture. In 1982, Ferdinand Andersen & Co. rebranded itself as Karat Kaffe. A significant development occurred in 1986 when Skandinavisk Kaffekompagni was formed through a collaboration between Karat Kaffe and General Foods (Gevalia), with Karat Kaffe holding a 60% stake and General Foods 40%. This partnership evolved in 1989 into Kraft General Foods, following General Foods' merger with Kraft Foods. In 2015, Karat Kaffe became part of JDE Professional, a division of Jacobs Douwe Egberts, a leading global coffee company headquartered in the Netherlands. This acquisition integrated Karat into a broader portfolio of coffee brands, allowing it to continue its legacy while benefiting from JDE Professional's extensive resources and distribution networks. Today, Karat remains a beloved brand in Denmark, offering a range of coffee products that cater to both traditional and modern tastes, and is produced primarily in Denmark, with some products also manufactured in other locations to meet diverse consumer needs.
