Chiquita bananas are one of the world's most recognized produce brands, with a history dating back to the late 19th century. The brand originated from the United Fruit Company, which was founded in 1899 through the merger of several fruit-exporting concerns. Today, Chiquita is a global leader in the distribution of bananas and other fresh produce.

The cultivation of Chiquita bananas primarily takes place in Latin American countries including Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, and Panama. These regions provide the tropical climate necessary for banana plantations to thrive. After harvesting, the fruit is transported via refrigerated logistics to markets worldwide, including Europe and North America.

Following a significant acquisition in 2015, Chiquita Brands International is now owned by a joint venture between two Brazilian firms: Cutrale, a major juice producer, and the Safra Group, a global investment firm. Although the brand has deep American roots, the company is currently headquartered in Etoy, Switzerland.
