Chiquita is one of the most recognized fruit brands in the world, famous for its iconic blue sticker. The brand's history began in 1899 as the United Fruit Company, a dominant force in the Central American banana industry for decades. Chiquita eventually evolved out of this entity, rebranding itself to focus on its most successful consumer mark. Today, the brand is synonymous with fresh produce, particularly Cavendish bananas, which are grown across sprawling plantations in Latin America.
In 2015, Chiquita underwent a massive structural change when it was acquired through a joint venture by the Brazilian juice giant Cutrale and the Safra Group investment firm. This acquisition ended the brand's long history as a U.S. public company and moved its global headquarters to Switzerland. Despite the change in ownership, the brand maintains its legacy of extensive agricultural operations in regions like Honduras and Guatemala while prioritizing sustainable farming and disease research to protect global banana supplies.
