Schweppes is one of the world's most historic beverage brands, founded by Johann Jacob Schweppe in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1783 with the invention of the first practical process to manufacture carbonated mineral water. The brand later moved its headquarters to London in 1792 to expand its operations, eventually receiving a Royal Warrant in 1836.
Today, the ownership of the Schweppes brand is fragmented geographically due to decade-old licensing and acquisition deals. In the United Kingdom and many parts of Europe, the brand is owned by Suntory Beverage & Food Ltd, which acquired the Schweppes and Orangina businesses in 2009. However, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) handles the bottling and distribution for the UK market. In North America, the brand is owned by Keurig Dr Pepper, while in many other global territories, it is owned by The Coca-Cola Company. The manufacturing typically occurs in the country of sale through various regional bottling partners.
