Underberg is a traditional German herbal digestif bitter, introduced in 1846 by Hubert Underberg in Rheinberg, Germany. The product is crafted from a proprietary blend of aromatic herbs sourced from 43 countries, aged in Slovenian oak barrels to enhance its distinctive flavor profile. With an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 44%, Underberg is renowned for its digestive properties, often consumed after meals to aid digestion. The brand's signature packaging features small, portion-sized bottles wrapped in straw-colored paper, designed to protect the contents from sunlight and serve as a hygienic barrier. In 1932, the grandson of the founder, Dr. Paul Underberg, expanded the brand's reach by establishing 'Underberg do Brasil' in Brazil, producing a variant known as Brasilberg. In 2018, Underberg became a subsidiary of Asbach GmbH, a German company recognized for its Asbach Uralt brandy. Despite this acquisition, Underberg continues to operate under its original brand name, preserving its heritage and identity. The brand's commitment to quality and tradition has solidified its presence in over 100 countries, making it a globally recognized digestif.
