Newgate Clocks is a British company founded in 1991 by Jim and Chloe Read. The name 'Newgate' was inspired by the old New Gate Toll near their apartment and first home in Oswestry. Initially, the company produced all clocks in their Oswestry factory. However, in 2003, production moved to Asia to reduce manufacturing costs and increase production capacity. In 2011, Newgate Clocks Ltd restarted production at its Shropshire factory, bringing some manufacturing back to the UK to have more control over quality and speed of production. The company designs and develops all products at their British office, warehouse, and studios, while manufacturing is carried out in Hong Kong and China. Newgate Clocks Ltd is a privately held company, with Jim and Chloe Read actively involved in its operations. They are known for their iconic vintage, industrial, retro, and mid-century style clocks and watches, which are sold worldwide through various distributors and retailers.
