Speedo is arguably the world's most iconic swimwear brand, frequently associated with competitive swimming and high-performance aquatic gear. The brand's history began in 1914 when Alexander MacRae, a Scottish immigrant in Australia, founded MacRae Hosiery manufacturers, later becoming MacRae Knitting Mills. The 'Speedo' name was adopted in 1928 after a staff naming contest resulted in the slogan 'Speed on in your Speedo'.

While the brand originated in Australia, its ownership structure has shifted significantly over the decades. Today, the global rights to the brand are owned by the British sportswear giant Pentland Group. In 2020, Pentland Group further consolidated its control by re-acquiring the North American operations of Speedo from PVH Corp (formerly Phillips-Van Heusen), bringing the global business under a single management for the first time in nearly 30 years.

Manufacturing of Speedo products takes place in multiple countries worldwide to meet global demand, including facilities in Asia and Europe. The brand remains the top choice for Olympic athletes and recreational swimmers alike, known for pioneering fabrics like the LZR Racer suit.
