The brand was established by founder Gerard Clement Smit, a Dutch industrial engineer who started his company, Technivorm, in 1964. While the company initially produced step ladders and shelving systems, it transitioned to coffee equipment with the launch of its first grinder in 1965 and the iconic Moccamaster brewer in 1968.

Every Moccamaster machine is handmade at the Technivorm factory in Amerongen, Netherlands.
