Lyons Toffypops are a classic British snack featuring a circular biscuit base topped with a gooey toffee center and coated in smooth chocolate. The brand traces its lineage back to J. Lyons & Co., a legendary British catering and food manufacturing conglomerate founded in 1884 that became a powerhouse of the UK food industry. While originally associated with teashops and luxury hotels, the biscuit division—originally trading as Symbol Biscuits—was established as Lyons Biscuits Ltd in the 20th century.
Following the decline and eventual breakup of the original Lyons empire in the late 1980s and 1990s, the biscuit business passed through several owners, including Hillsdown Holdings. It was eventually integrated into Burton’s Biscuit Company, the UK's second-largest biscuit manufacturer. In June 2021, Burton’s Biscuit Company was acquired by the Ferrero Group, the global Italian confectionery leader known for brands like Nutella and Ferrero Rocher. Today, Lyons Toffypops continue to be produced in the United Kingdom, primarily at Burton's established facilities in locations such as Blackpool, under the ultimate stewardship of the Ferrero family.
