Brooklyn Lager is an American Amber Lager produced by Brooklyn Brewery, founded in 1988 in Brooklyn, New York. The brewery was established by Steve Hindy and Tom Potter, who were inspired by the rich brewing history of Brooklyn, which was once home to over 45 breweries in the late 1800s. The beer is amber-gold in color, featuring a firm malt center with flavors of toffee, toast, and caramel, complemented by a dry-hopped aroma of grapefruit, flowers, and pine. This distinctive flavor profile is achieved through the practice of dry-hopping, where fresh hops are steeped in the beer during a long, cold maturation process. This technique enhances the beer's aromatic qualities, resulting in a smooth, refreshing, and versatile beverage that pairs well with a variety of foods, including pizza, burgers, salads, steaks, Mexican cuisine, roast chicken, barbecue, fried fish, pork, Chinese dishes, and cheeses like manchego, Stilton, farmhouse cheddar, and mild Gruyère. In 2016, Brooklyn Brewery entered into a distribution agreement with the Carlsberg Group, a Danish multinational brewing company headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark. This partnership expanded the reach of Brooklyn Brewery's products, including Brooklyn Lager, to Europe, the UK, and Hong Kong. Additionally, Carlsberg opened a craft brewery in Lithuania to produce Brooklyn Lager under license, further increasing its global presence. Despite this partnership, Brooklyn Brewery remains an independent company, with Carlsberg Group serving as a distributor rather than an owner. The brewery continues to operate under its original ownership, maintaining its commitment to producing high-quality craft beers that honor the brewing traditions of Brooklyn.
