The noodles are known for their intense spiciness, with the original flavor containing approximately 4,404 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). The product gained international popularity through the 'Fire Noodle Challenge' on YouTube, where participants attempt to eat the spicy noodles without drinking water. In June 2024, Danish authorities recalled certain Buldak variants due to health concerns over high capsaicin levels, which can pose risks of acute poisoning, especially to children and vulnerable adults.
