Diesel Fuel

Diesel fuel is a specific fractional distillate of petroleum fuel oil, named after German inventor Rudolf Diesel. Since its invention in the late 19th century, diesel has become a cornerstone of the global transportation and industrial sectors, powering everything from heavy machinery and trucks to passenger cars and marine vessels.

While the term 'Diesel' refers to a type of fuel rather than a single proprietary brand, it is produced by petrochemical giants worldwide. Manufacturing occurs at refineries globally, proximate to both crude oil sources and high-demand markets to minimize transportation logistics. Today, the fuel is refined and distributed by major multinational energy firms including Shell, ExxonMobil, BP, and Chevron, among many others.

Ownership of the distribution networks and the proprietary additives used in specific diesel blends rests with these individual energy corporations. In contemporary markets, the production is increasingly focused on 'Green Diesel' or renewable diesel, reflecting a global shift toward sustainable energy solutions and reduced sulfur emissions.
