Vrbo, originally known as Vacation Rentals by Owner, is an online marketplace for vacation rentals. It was founded in 1995 by David Clouse in Aurora, Colorado, with the goal of renting his Breckenridge Ski Resort condo. The platform quickly gained popularity among homeowners seeking to list their properties for short-term rentals. In 2006, Vrbo was acquired by HomeAway, a vacation rental marketplace. In 2015, Expedia Group acquired HomeAway, including Vrbo, for $3.9 billion. In 2019, Vrbo underwent a rebranding, adopting a new logo and pronunciation. In 2020, the HomeAway and Vrbo websites were merged and rebranded as a single Vrbo website. The primary owner of Vrbo is the American company Expedia Group, Inc., headquartered in Seattle, Washington. Expedia Group is a publicly traded company listed on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol EXPE. Vrbo operates globally, offering vacation rental listings in multiple countries.
