The brand's foundation lies in the innovation of using aluminium lactate as an astringent agent to treat gum disease, a breakthrough originally developed in cooperation with researchers from Boehringer Ingelheim. Since its inception, Lacalut has specialized in medical-grade toothpastes and oral hygiene products designed to prevent gingivitis and periodontitis.

In 2000, the brand was acquired by Dr. Theiss Naturwaren GmbH, a family-owned pharmaceutical and cosmetic company based in Homburg, Germany. Under this ownership, Lacalut has expanded its global presence to more than 60 countries. The products continue to be researched and manufactured exclusively in the company's production facilities in Homburg, Saarland, maintaining a strict 'Made in Germany' quality standard. The brand remains a key pillar of the Dr. Theiss Group portfolio, benefiting from their specialized research into natural and pharmaceutical remedies.
