Perrier Sparkling Mineral Water

Perrier is one of the world's most recognizable brands of bottled sparkling mineral water, renowned for its carbonation and iconic green packaging. The water is sourced from a unique natural spring in Vergèze, located in the Gard department of southern France. Known as "Les Bouillens" since Roman times, the spring was officially transformed into a commercial enterprise in 1863. The brand gained international fame in the early 20th century under the leadership of St. John Harmsworth, who designed the famous bulbous bottle inspired by Indian exercise clubs.

While the product is naturally carbonated at the source, the bottling process involves capturing the water and gas independently before recombining them to ensure consistent quality. Manufacturing remains strictly tied to the original French spring to maintain its status as a natural mineral water. In 1992, the brand was acquired by the Swiss multinational Nestlé, becoming a cornerstone of Nestlé Waters.

Starting in early 2026, the brand's ownership entered a transitional phase as Nestlé initiated a strategic auction of its premium European water business, including Perrier and S.Pellegrino. As of May 2026, Nestlé remains the ultimate owner while final negotiations with major private equity firms are ongoing to reshape the brand’s future under new stewardship.
