Ritter Sport is a German brand of chocolate bars produced by the family-owned company Alfred Ritter GmbH & Co. KG, headquartered in Waldenbuch, Germany. The company was founded in 1912 by Clara and Alfred Eugen Ritter and has remained family-owned since its inception. Ritter Sport is renowned for its square-shaped chocolate bars, each divided into 16 smaller squares, creating a four-by-four pattern. The brand offers a wide variety of flavors, including milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and specialty combinations. The company operates multiple production facilities, including a significant site in Breitenbrunn, Austria, and sources cocoa from its own plantation in Nicaragua, which spans 2,500 hectares, with 1,200 hectares dedicated to sustainable agroforestry and another 1,200 hectares protecting forests and wetlands. Ritter Sport is committed to sustainability, investing around seven million euros annually in cocoa programs in Middle and South America and West Africa. The company has been certified to ZNU standard and has been run entirely on renewable energy since 2002. Ritter Sport's products are available in over 100 countries worldwide, with a market share of 22.4% in the 100-gram bar segment in Germany as of 2020. The brand's slogan, 'Quadratisch. Praktisch.
