Puma is one of the world's most iconic sports brands, originally founded in Herzogenaurach, Germany, following a fallout between brothers Rudolf and Adolf Dassler. Rudolf established Puma in 1948, while his brother founded Adidas. The brand quickly became a leader in the athletic footwear industry, particularly in football and track and field.
While the brand's creative and corporate roots remain firmly in Germany, its manufacturing footprint is global. Puma utilizes a vast network of independent suppliers mainly located in Asia—including Vietnam, China, Cambodia, and Indonesia—as well as facilities in Europe and the Americas to serve different regional markets. This distributed supply chain allows the company to maintain high-performance standards while managing global logistics.
Today, Puma SE is a publicly traded European company (Societas Europaea). While it was formerly owned by the French luxury group Kering, Kering spun off most of its stake to its shareholders in 2018. As of the current period, the Artemis Group (the holding company of the Pinault family) remains a significant shareholder, though the majority of Puma is owned by public institutional and private investors, maintaining its status as an independent German-hearted global powerhouse.
