Philips televisions have a long history rooted in the Netherlands, where the company was founded in 1891 by Gerard and Frederik Philips. Originally a pioneer in lighting and electronics, Philips became a dominant force in the television market during the mid-20th century. Over time, the company shifted its strategic focus toward healthcare technology, leading to the divestment of its consumer electronics divisions.

In 2012, Philips entered a joint venture with TPV Technology, a Hong Kong-based electronics giant, which later acquired full ownership of the TV division under the name TP Vision. Today, while the Philips brand remains synonymous with Dutch innovation, the televisions themselves are primarily designed and produced by TP Vision. Manufacturing occurs in several global locations to serve regional markets; for instance, many units for the European market are assembled in Poland, while others are produced in China and Brazil.

Currently, TP Vision (a subsidiary of TPV Technology) holds the license to develop, manufacture, and market these products globally, except in North America, where the brand is licensed to Funai Electric. Consequently, the ultimate ownership of the brand's TV operations lies with TPV Technology Limited, headquartered in Hong Kong.
