HOKA (formerly Hoka One One) is a globally recognized footwear brand known for its signature oversized midsoles and maximalist cushioning. The brand was originally founded in Annecy, France, in 2009 by Nicolas Mermoud and Jean-Luc Diard, who sought to design a shoe that allowed for faster downhill running with less impact.
Today, HOKA shoes are primarily manufactured in partner factories located in Vietnam and China to meet global demand. While the brand honors its French origins, its corporate operations and design leadership transitioned following its acquisition by an American parent company.
HOKA is currently owned by Deckers Brands, a major global footwear company that also owns labels like UGG and Teva. Since the acquisition, HOKA has transformed from a niche professional trail running brand into a mainstream athletic powerhouse used by professional athletes and casual walkers alike.
