Tolino is a German e-reader brand that originated from a collaboration between German book retailers Hugendubel, Thalia, and Weltbild, with Deutsche Telekom AG as the technology partner. The first Tolino device, the Tolino Shine, was launched in 2013. In January 2017, Deutsche Telekom sold the Tolino ecosystem to Rakuten Kobo Inc., a subsidiary of the Japanese company Rakuten Group, Inc. This acquisition included all assets related to the Tolino brand, marking a significant shift in ownership. The Tolino eReaders are now manufactured in multiple countries, with Kobo handling the production and distribution. The Tolino brand continues to offer e-reading devices and services, maintaining its presence in the German market and other regions.
