Flensburger Pilsener

Flensburger Pilsener is a renowned German beer produced by the Flensburger Brauerei Emil Petersen GmbH & Co. KG. Based in Flensburg, in the northernmost state of Schleswig-Holstein, the brewery was founded in 1888. It is one of the few remaining major independent breweries in Germany that is not part of a larger international beverage conglomerate. The brand is famously recognized for its distinctive 'Steinie' bottle shape and the 'plopp' sound made when opening its traditional flip-top (swing-top) closure.

The beer's manufacturing is centralized at the original brewery site in Flensburg, utilizing water from a subterranean glacial spring. Ownership has remained within the Dethleffsen and Petersen families for generations, maintaining its status as a fiercely independent family-run business. This independence has allowed the brand to cultivate a unique identity centered on North German regional pride and high-quality brewing standards according to the German Purity Law (Reinheitsgebot).
