The founders—Scott Seamans, Lyndon 'Duke' Hanson, and George Boedecker Jr.—leveraged a unique closed-cell resin material called Croslite, which provides the lightweight, odor-resistant, and non-marking qualities that made the brand a global phenomenon. Initially a niche product for boaters and gardeners, the shoe's distinct silhouette and comfort eventually transformed it into a mainstream fashion and utility staple.

Today, Crocs, Inc. is a publicly-traded company headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado. It has transitioned from owning its own factories to an outsourced manufacturing model. Consequently, Crocs products are produced in various locations globally, including Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Mexico. The brand has further expanded its portfolio through strategic acquisitions, such as the purchase of the Jibbitz charm company and the 2022 acquisition of HEYDUDE, positioning itself as a dominant leader in the casual footwear market for 2026 and beyond.
