Founded in 1898 by Hans Deuter in Augsburg-Oberhausen, Germany, Deuter Sport GmbH is one of Europe's oldest and most prestigious backpack manufacturers. Originally known for supplying the Bavarian Royal Post with mailbags and later military equipment, the brand pivoted toward outdoor and mountain sports in the mid-20th century, becoming a pioneer in breathable back systems.

Since 1994, Deuter has maintained a long-term production partnership with Duke Co. Ltd. in Vietnam, where the vast majority of its high-quality technical backpacks and sleeping bags are manufactured. In 2006, the brand was acquired by the Schwan-STABILO Group, a renowned German multi-generational family enterprise. This ownership ensures that Deuter remains under German corporate governance while maintaining its global reputation for ergonomic design and durability in the mountaineering and hiking sectors.
