Barilla is the world's leading pasta manufacturer, maintaining a strong global footprint with 30 production sites across the globe. About half of these facilities are located in its home country, Italy, while the remaining sites are spread internationally in countries including the United States (with major plants in Ames, Iowa, and Avon, New York), Greece, France, Germany, Sweden, Turkey, Canada, and Mexico.

Originally founded in 1877 by Pietro Barilla Sr. as a small bread and pasta shop in Parma, Italy, the brand has grown into a multinational food giant. While the company was briefly owned by the American chemical firm W. R. Grace from 1971 to 1979, the Barilla family successfully reacquired it. Today, it remains a privately held family business, directed by the fourth generation of the Barilla family. It is widely recognized for its signature blue packaging and its extensive range of products, including pasta, sauces, and bakery items under brands like Mulino Bianco and Wasa.
