Jameson is the world’s bestselling Irish whiskey, a brand that has become synonymous with the category itself. The whiskey is celebrated for its signature smoothness, which is achieved through a triple-distillation process—a hallmark of the Irish style. It is produced using a blend of pot still and grain whiskeys, aged in oak casks for a minimum of three years to develop its characteristic notes of toasted wood, vanilla, and sweet sherry. Traditionally, all production takes place at the historic Midleton Distillery in County Cork.

The history of the brand dates back to 1780, when John Jameson founded the Bow Street Distillery in Dublin. For nearly two centuries, it remained a family-controlled enterprise until seismic shifts in the global spirits market led to the formation of Irish Distillers. Today, the brand represents the pinnacle of the Irish spirits export market, maintaining its heritage while benefiting from the global distribution network of its parent company.

Jameson is currently owned by the French spirits giant Pernod Ricard. This ownership began in 1988 following a takeover of Irish Distillers. Under Pernod Ricard’s stewardship, Jameson has expanded its footprint significantly, becoming a staple in bars and households worldwide. The brand continues to invest in sustainable distilling practices and innovative expressions, such as the Black Barrel and Caskmates series, ensuring it remains relevant for future generations of whiskey enthusiasts.
