Zendium is a Scandinavian-rooted oral care brand that has become a staple in dental hygiene, particularly in Denmark where it holds a significant market share. The brand's history began in 1969 with the groundbreaking enzyme research of Dutch microbiologist Dr. Henk Hoogendoorn, who sought to mimic the mouth's natural defense systems. This scientific breakthrough led to the launch of Zendium toothpaste in the Netherlands in 1976 and its subsequent introduction to the Danish market in 1980.
Over the decades, Zendium was nurtured within the consumer goods divisions of large corporations, including the Dutch chemicals group Akzo (now AkzoNobel). Eventually, it became part of the extensive portfolio of Unilever, the British multinational consumer goods giant. Today, Zendium is managed as one of Unilever’s specialized personal care brands. While it maintains its strong heritage in Northern Europe, its manufacturing occurs across various global facilities dedicated to Unilever’s oral care production, ensuring the product reaches consumers in numerous countries across Europe and the Middle East.
