Mentos is a world-renowned brand of chewy mints and candies, originally developed in the Netherlands during the 1930s. The brand was created by the brothers Michael and Pierre van Melle at their confectionery company, Van Melle. Mentos became particularly famous for its unique texture—a soft, chewy center with a hard outer shell—and its iconic 'freshmaker' advertising campaigns.

Today, the brand is owned by Perfetti Van Melle, a global Italian-Dutch multinational company. Perfection Van Melle was formed in 2001 after the merger of the Italian Perfetti Group and the Dutch Van Melle company. Manufacturing is highly distributed, with major production facilities located in the Netherlands, Italy, China, Brazil, Indonesia, and Vietnam to serve different regional markets. The brand continues to lead the confectionery market with a wide range of mint and fruit flavors available in over 150 countries.
