Bose, then a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the company was born out of his personal pursuit to replicate the acoustic experience of a live concert hall. In a unique move for a multi-billion dollar corporation, the majority of Bose's non-voting shares were donated to MIT in 2011 by its founder.
