Cadbury is an iconic British multinational confectionery brand with a history dating back to 1824 when John Cadbury opened a shop in Birmingham, England. Initially selling tea, coffee, and drinking chocolate, the business eventually focused on chocolate production, leading to the creation of the world-famous Dairy Milk bar in 1905. The brand is synonymous with the vibrant purple packaging and the 'Glass and a Half' slogan, representing its creamy milk chocolate heritage.
Today, Cadbury products are manufactured in multiple locations worldwide, including major facilities in the United Kingdom (Bournville), Ireland, Australia, India, and Canada. While it remains a quintessentially British brand in spirit, its manufacturing footprint has expanded globally to serve different regional markets. In the United States, Cadbury products are produced under license by The Hershey Company.
In 2010, Cadbury was acquired by the American conglomerate Kraft Foods. Following a corporate restructuring in 2012, Kraft Foods spun off its snack food division into a new company, Mondelez International. As of 2024 and beyond, Mondelez International remains the ultimate owner of the brand, managing its global operations from its headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.
