Theakston Old Peculier is one of the world's most famous draught ales and the flagship beer of T&R Theakston Ltd. Originating from Masham, North Yorkshire, it is named after the peculiar ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Court of the Peculier of Masham. The beer is known for its rich, dark color and complex flavor profile involving cherry and dark fruit notes.

While the company has faced various ownership changes through the decades, including a period of ownership by Scottish & Newcastle, the Theakston family famously regained control of the brewery in 2003. They have since maintained its status as an independent family-controlled brewery, preserving the traditional methods of brewing that have been associated with the name since the early 19th century.

Manufacturing remains centered at the Black Bull in Masham, where they continue to use traditional brewing vessels and even employ a traditional craft cooper to make wooden casks. The brand remains a staple of British brewing heritage, recognized globally for its high quality and historical significance in the Yorkshire brewing tradition.
