Sensodyne is a world-renowned brand of toothpaste and mouthwash specifically designed for people with sensitive teeth. The brand was originally created by Block Drug, a company based in Brooklyn, New York, in 1961. It gained significant popularity due to its specialized formula using strontium chloride (and later potassium nitrate) to block pain signals in the tooth nerves.
In 2001, the brand was acquired by the British pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). In 2022, GSK spun off its consumer healthcare division to form Haleon, which now serves as the ultimate owner of the brand. While the brand has American roots, it is now managed by a UK-headquartered multinational. Manufacturing is widespread to meet global demand, with major production facilities located in the United Kingdom, United States, and various other regional hubs depending on the specific market.
