It was established as a sub-brand of TP-Link, the global networking giant headquartered in Irvine, California. Tapo offers a wide range of products, including smart security cameras, robot vacuums, light bulbs, plugs, and sensors, all designed to integrate seamlessly into a connected ecosystem.

While the brand has its roots in China through its association with TP-Link Technologies Co., Ltd., the company underwent a major global restructuring in 2024 to separate its international operations from its Chinese business. Today, Tapo is managed by TP-Link Systems Inc., an American-owned entity. Manufacturing remains largely concentrated in China to leverage established industrial infrastructure, but production has increasingly diversified to facilities in Vietnam and Brazil to serve global markets and enhance supply chain security.
