Skechers Footwear

Skechers is a prominent American footwear brand that has evolved significantly since its inception in 1992. Founded by Robert Greenberg and his son Michael Greenberg in Manhattan Beach, California, the company initially focused on utility boots and skate shoes before expanding into a global leader in casual and athletic footwear known for its 'Memory Foam' technology.

While the brand is headquartered in the United States, its manufacturing is entirely outsourced to a network of independent factories located in Asia. The primary production hubs are China and Vietnam, which account for the vast majority of its output. Additional manufacturing takes place in Indonesia and Cambodia. This globalized supply chain allows the company to maintain cost-efficiency while meeting high-volume global demand.

In a major shift for the company's corporate structure, Skechers was acquired by the global investment firm 3G Capital in late 2025 for approximately $9.4 billion. Despite the change in majority ownership, the founding Greenberg family remains deeply involved, retaining a minority stake and continuing to lead the company's daily operations and strategic direction from its original California headquarters.
