Milka is one of the world's most iconic chocolate brands, easily recognized by its distinctive lilac-colored packaging and the 'Milka Cow.' The brand's journey began in 1901 in Lörrach, Germany, founded by the Swiss chocolatier Philippe Suchard. The name 'Milka' is a portmanteau of its two primary ingredients: Milch (milk) and Kakao (cocoa).
Originally part of the Suchard company, the brand underwent several corporate transitions, merging with Tobler to become Interfood and later being acquired by Jacobs Coffee to form Jacobs Suchard. In 1990, the brand was acquired by Kraft Foods. Today, Milka is part of Mondelēz International, a global leader in snacks and confectionery. While it has deep roots in the Alpine region—specifically Switzerland and Germany—manufacturing now takes place in several European locations including Germany, Austria, Poland, and Bulgaria to satisfy global demand.
