Original Wagner Steinofen Pizza

Wagner is a renowned German brand synonymous with frozen pizza, specifically the 'Steinofen' (stone-oven) variety. Its journey began in a family-run bakery in nonnweiler, Germany, where the Wagner family perfected recipes for stone-baked products. Their innovation in the 1970s and 1980s helped define the frozen pizza segment in Europe, emphasizing the quality of a crispy base cooked in traditional ovens.

In 2005, the global food conglomerate Nestlé acquired a majority stake in Wagner, eventually taking full ownership in 2013 to strengthen its presence in the European frozen food market. However, in late 2022, Nestlé entered a major deal with private equity firm PAI Partners to move its European frozen pizza business into a joint venture called European Pizza Group. This venture is now the primary operator and owner of the brand, aimed at fostering further growth and specialty in the frozen meal category across the continent. Most production remains centralized at the high-tech manufacturing facility in Nonnweiler, Germany.
