Avocado

Avocados (Persea americana) are a popular fruit originating from south-central Mexico. Historically, the brand 'Avocado' is not a single corporate entity but a category of produce that has been cultivated for thousands of years by indigenous populations in Mesoamerica. Today, the commercial trade is dominated by various global producers and distributors rather than a single owner.

Most avocados available in global markets are the Hass variety, which was first patented by Rudolph Hass in California in 1935. Currently, Mexico remains the world's leading producer, while significant commercial cultivation also occurs in countries like Peru, Chile, Colombia, South Africa, and the United States (primarily California). Because they are a raw agricultural commodity, they are distributed by various multinational cooling and logistics companies such as Mission Produce, Calavo Growers, and Westfalia Fruit.
