Kerrygold is an iconic Irish brand originally established by the Irish Dairy Board (now Ornua) in 1962 to market Irish dairy products internationally. While the traditional Kerrygold butter is churned and packaged in Ireland, products like 'Kerrygold Extra' (a spreadable blend of butter and rapeseed oil) are often manufactured and packaged in Germany to serve the local European market efficiently. The facility in Neukirchen-Vluyn, operated by Ornua Deutschland GmbH, handles the production and distribution for the German market. The brand remains entirely owned by Ornua Co-operative Limited, an agri-food commercial co-operative which markets and sells dairy products on behalf of its members, Ireland's dairy processors, and, in turn, Irish dairy farmers.
