Founded in 1893 in the Jura region of Switzerland, Wenger is one of the two original manufacturers of the iconic Swiss Army Knife. Originally known as Paul Boéchat & Cie, the company became a key supplier to the Swiss military alongside its competitor, Victorinox. For over a century, Wenger was recognized as the 'Genuine Swiss Army Knife' maker, distinguished by its unique designs, integrated locking blades, and specialized tool configurations like the serrated edge scissors.

In 2005, Victorinox acquired Wenger after the company faced financial difficulties following the global downturn in travel. While the two brands continued to operate independently for several years, Victorinox eventually integrated Wenger's knife production into its own brand identity in 2013 to streamline its product line. Today, the Wenger brand remains active but has shifted its primary focus to outdoor gear, watches, and travel luggage, while its historic knife designs are marketed under the Victorinox 'Delémont Collection'.

Manufacturing of the original Wenger-style knives continues to take place at the historic factory in Delémont, Switzerland. This ensures that the craftsmanship and heritage of the Jura-based brand are preserved under the stewardship of Victorinox, which remains a family-owned enterprise headquartered in Ibach, Switzerland.
