Leerdammer is a world-renowned semi-hard cheese produced in the Netherlands. It was first developed in 1977 in the town of Schoonrewoerd by Cees Boterkooper and Bastiaan Baars. The cheese was specifically designed to compete with popular varieties like Gouda and Emmental by combining the nuttier flavour and large holes of Emmental with the creamy texture of Edam.

Today, Leerdammer is a major international brand found in supermarkets across the globe. While the brand spent several decades under the ownership of the French Bel Group, it was acquired by the Lactalis Group in 2021 as part of a major asset exchange. Production remains deeply rooted in its Dutch heritage, primarily occurring at its original facilities in the Netherlands.
