Carl's Jr. is an American fast-food restaurant chain that traces its roots back to 1941 when Carl Karcher and his wife, Margaret, started with a hot dog cart in Los Angeles. The brand grew rapidly into a full-scale restaurant operation known for its charbroiled burgers. Today, it is a global brand with locations across North and South America, Asia, and Europe.
The brand is currently owned by CKE Restaurants Holdings, Inc., which also owns the Hardee's brand. Since 2013, CKE Restaurants has been a subsidiary of Roark Capital Group, a private equity firm based in Atlanta, Georgia. While the brand originated in California, its burgers are prepared locally in the various countries where their franchises operate using regional supply chains.
