Tabasco is one of the world's most iconic hot sauce brands, originally created in 1868 by Edmund McIlhenny. The sauce is famously produced on Avery Island, Louisiana, using a consistent recipe of tabasco peppers, vinegar, and salt. The production process is unique for its long aging period, where the pepper mash is matured in white oak barrels for up to three years before being blended and bottled.

The brand remains a family-owned legacy, managed by the McIlhenny Company for over 150 years. While the peppers were originally grown solely on Avery Island, the global demand now sees peppers sourced from multiple locations in Latin America and Africa to ensure year-round supply and consistency, though all peppers are grown from Avery Island seeds and the final mixing and bottling still occur exclusively in Louisiana.
